RSV Season

What does this mean to you and your family? Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that infects virtually all children before age two. The virus usually causes mild "cold" symptoms but, in some infants at risk, can cause a life-threatening illness.

Find up-to-date information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) about RSV outbreaks by state, region, or the entire US on the RSV Tracking System.

For Joey, it’s just a ‘‘cold.’’ For Julie, it’s a calamity.

Joey was a healthy, full-term infant and RSV just caused mild respiratory symptoms. Julie was born several weeks before her due date, with underdeveloped lungs. Her infection caused a serious illness and a long, expensive hospitalization. Fortunately, she was not one of the 4,500 babies in the U.S. who die each year because of RSV disease.
